“Get to the chopper,” Arnold Schwarzenegger (Predator). Total Recall is Arnold’s autobiography, and all that I can say is that this man is beyond ravenous and of a different species. Who else can say that they were a soldier, Mr. Olympia seven times, a millionaire real-estate investor, a successful author, movie star, and Governor of California? Watching Arnold go from his humble beginnings in Austria to the person that we all know now, will make anyone wonder what they have been doing all this time. Arnold’s sense of humor takes this text to another level whether it is playing mind games with his bodybuilding competition, or using his nationality to make construction sales.

Here are some of the key takeaways that I noted down from this book:

  • Arnold Schwarzenegger, “Have a vision, trust yourself, break some rules, ignore the naysayers, and don’t be afraid to fail.”
  • Turn liabilities into assets
  • When one is told no hear yes
  • “Never follow the crowd, go where it is empty.”
  • “No matter what you do in life selling is part of it.”
  • Arnold then gives us his top ten rules:
    1. “Never let your pride get in your way.”
    2. “Don’t overthink.”
    3. “Forget plan B.”
    4. “Use outrageous humor to settle a score.”
    5. “The day has 24 hours.”
    6. “Reps.”
    7. “Do not blame your parents.”
    8. “Change takes big balls.”
    9. “Take care of your body and mind.”
    10. “Stay hungry.”
